Description
NPK 20-10-10
| Attribute | Detail |
| Composition | 20% N, 10% P₂O₅, 10% K₂O |
| Primary Function | Nitrogen-rich fertilizer for vigorous vegetative growth in cereals. |
| Typical Use in Northern Nigeria | Ideal for cereal crops in the Northern Guinea Savanna agro-ecological zone, such as maize, rice, sorghum, and millet, where nitrogen is often a primary yield-limiting factor. |
| Crops & Soil Conditions | The high nitrogen content makes this blend particularly effective on soils with adequate baseline phosphorus and potassium levels, where a strong start is needed. |
| Application Strategy | Best used on nitrogen-demanding cereals. In the Northern Guinea Savanna, a recommended nutrient rate for maize is 120 kg N, 60 kg P, and 60 kg K per hectare; this can be achieved with a 20-10-10 blend. For some crops, rates up to 200 kg N/ha (approximately 1 ton of 20-10-10) have been studied for improved performance. |
Note: It is important to be aware of quality control issues. Some fertilizer brands marketed as 20-10-10 in Nigeria have been found to have significantly lower nutrient grades, which can reduce crop performance.
